Established at the dawn of the new millennium Art on Walls is a privately owned enterprise servicing Australia's corporate and private sectors with classical art inspired by the European masters.

Company manager, Gérard Maillé is originally from the port of Sète in the south of France. Sète is a lively Mediterranean town with picturesque views from Mont Saint Clair - fertile soil for a creative mind. In France, he studied art at the Académie des Beaux Arts, and from there an artistic pathway evolved. In his early career Gérard focussed on painting still life, landscapes and seascapes, being strongly influenced by the European classics.

After immigrating to Australia, Gérard studied graphic/commercial art and soon established his own graphic art business. The love of expression led him to develop a repertoire of artistic forms to include murals and "trompe l'œil". He also studied traditional decorative finishes, including the art of gilding.

Gérard's highly acclaimed works feature Trompe L'oeil, a French word meaning, 'trick of the eye'. Trompe L'oeil is a decorative technique that portrays a two-dimensional image to appear as if it were a three-dimensional object.

The art of Faux Finishes is also illusionary in style and will no doubt have you wondering what is real and what is 'faux' real.

A specialist at Interior and Exterior gilding using traditional European methods, Gérard gilds a wide range of surfaces including iron, lead, copper, bronze, aluminium as well as wooden and plaster surfaces.

According to the artists himself, 'Gold leaf can be applied to decorative cornices, ceiling centres, mouldings on walls and doors, arch surrounds, antique furniture and picture frames'. Gilding of architectural features such as grids, gates, railings, gables and lampposts is a much sought-after dimension to Gerard's talent.

Treasures of the past can be restored to its original beauty, or new treasures can be created in a more contemporary style. Buildings of historical importance can be restored to their former glory. Contemporary residence can be transformed into a signature piece to portray personal elegance.

Restoration work, stencilling and decorative signage add to the repertoire that Gérard offers a client searching for that personal style or that unique sense of sophistication.

Today, an award winning artist, Gérard's work adorns many of Brisbane's social and leisure precincts, including

Queensland's Heritage House, Palma Rosa; Treasury Casino; Westfield Shoppingtown, Indooroopilly; The Emporium French Restaurant, Fortitude Valley; The Acacia Ridge Hotel; The Waterloo Bay Hotel, Woody Point; The Full Moon Hotel, Redcliffe; The Brackenridge Hotel; The Queens Arm Hotel, Roma, to name but a few.
