Lady of the Lamp, the tale of a Cabinet Secretary Boulevard of Broken Wings

Thou Shalt Not …

Not long after the rumour mill started to fan that I would be publishing an online magazine, this email found its way into my Inbox.

It got me thinking. More often than not we project our morality onto others. Rightly or wrongly that’s why we have governments. Well what better forum than an online magazine to reach a vast audience and seek their wisdom.

Take a moment to study this scenario.

“I am in my early forties, my husband is 10 years my senior. Not long after our marriage 15 years ago, my husband developed some medical complications and we were told that, as a result, he would be unlikely to father a child. We were devastated since we planned to have a family. We talked about options to conceive, but my husband wasn’t happy about any of them. Eventually I accepted that this was just my lot. Six weeks ago I caught up with a former colleague and, after too many drinks, we ended up in bed. We stupidly didn’t use contraception so I visited my GP only to find out that I am pregnant. I was shocked because I know that the chances of conceiving at my age are very low. I don’t know what to do. While terminating the pregnancy seems the obvious choice, this is my only chance to be a mother. I love my husband and know this may mean the end of my marriage, but the pull to have this baby is very strong. What shall I do?”

Now, if the notion of right and wrong were suspended, how would you advise this woman?

The best responses will be published in upcoming editions of It’s All About Me magazine. All I would require is a name and your city of residence.
